Our courses are open to all. Our current Learners consists of people from various backgrounds including solicitors, Muslim Chaplains and Imams, graduates including Psychology graduates, social workers, mums or just yourself who want to change career.

Level 2 Award in Listening Support Skills

The Level 2 Award in Listening Support Skills will benefit students from 14 years to mature adults who are interested in understanding other people and improving their personal and working relationships.

Listening Support Skills will help you:

  • to support colleagues at work, family, friends or as a community volunteer
  • to enhance your work as a helping professional
  • in Peer Support work
  • to support service users

 

Entry requirements

No previous training or experience is required to undertake this qualification but you will be asked to complete tasks and be involved in work groups discussions.

Credit Value 4

Minimum  14 years

Progression

Once Candidates have completed this qualification, they can progress to Level 2 Award in Introduction to Counselling skills

Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills

If you want to become a counsellor the Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills forms the foundation of professional counselling practice as well as providing the essential listening and communications skills used by helping professionals.

It is the first compulsory qualification on our progression route to becoming a counsellor.

The learner will be able to:-

  • Use counselling skills ethically and safely
  • Explain and maintain boundaries and confidentiality
  • Work and communicate emphatically
  • Enable the helpee to focus on their concerns
  • Use of self-awareness by feedback, reflection and supervision
  • Islamic counselling and mainstream counselling, differences, similarities

Entry requirements

No previous training or experience is required to undertake this qualification but candidates must be able to cope with course content which involves written essays, Peer assessments and group work.

Minimum age 18 years

Progression

Successful candidates may progress onto the Level 3 Certificate in counselling skills

Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies

The Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies introduces you to the three main theoretical approaches to counselling and shows you what you can expect from working with counselling agencies.

As part of this qualification you can volunteer to work for an agency in a non-counselling capacity. Working on an agency-based project is also an effective way of securing a work placement for further counselling experience.

This learner will be able to:

  • To understand and prepare to work within an etchical framework for counselling
  • Understand and explain the counselling relationship
  • Understand and working with diversity and differences
  • Working with a user centred approach to counselling
  • Understanding theories of counselling and mental health
  • Self awareness by using feedback, reflection and supervision to support counselling

Entry requirements

You must have undertaken counselling skills training, e.g. our  Level 2 Certificate in Counselling skills

Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills or equivalent units/qualifications of at least 75 Guided Learning Hours.

Minimum age 18 years

Progression

Successful candidates may progress onto the Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling

Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling

Our Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling will benefit learners who want to train to become a counsellor working in a counselling agency. Successful completion of this course will enable you to provide a therapeutic counselling service within the context of an agency’s service framework.

The Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling provides:

  • coherent vocational and professional counselling training
  • a competence based training which highlights the development of skilled practice via experiential learning
  • specific training for the role of counsellor in an agency
  • the opportunity to learn a wide range of counselling theories and approaches
  • a pathway onto the Open University Foundation Degree in Counselling.

Entry requirements

You must have obtained both our Level 2 Certificate in Counselling skills and our Level 3 Certificate in Counselling studies, or their equivalent.

Upon successful completion

You may progress onto CPCAB’s:

Level 5 Diploma in Cognitive Behavioual Therapeutic Sklls nd Theory (CBT-L5)

Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling (PC-L5)

Open University

You will want to work toward BACP accreditation as a counsellor which will require you have a minimum number of post qualifying (TC-L4) hours practice
