Counselling

What is Islamic Counselling?

Islamic counselling is a form of counselling which incorporates spirituality into therapeutic treatment. The goal of this type of psychotherapy is to address a variety of underlying psychological needs from a faith-based perspective.

What is Counselling?

Talking to someone helps you to see your problems more clearly. It enables you to explore all the possible solutions. By doing so you can then face up to and learn to work through the causes of your distress or anxiety. Counselling aims to help you to help yourself, by understanding why you feel the way you do, by exploring and planning how you manage emotional and practical realities. Counselling supports you in making the right decisions for yourself, but not by yourself. Counselling gives you the space to explore who you are and what really matters to you. This can be a very positive experience. Counsellors work in a way that enables you not to be dependent on them. They support you to believe in yourself and to trust your own judgement.

Who needs Counselling?

We all experience stressful times in our lives and sometimes it can feel a bit too much. No matter how hard we try, we feel unable to cope and we may feel depressed and anxious. Your doctor may have prescribed medication. A combination of medication and counselling often works very well.

How can Psychotherapy help you?

A trained therapist seeks to help you gain a perspective about issues that trouble you. Together we explore the causes of your problems, why and how you maintain them and consider what might be stopping you from reaching your full potential. Finally we determine what you need to do to change things for yourself. Counselling can help in the following:

  • Abuse (Sexual, physical, emotional)
  • Couple Counselling
  • Relationship and family issues
  • Anxiety, Depression and stress
  • Assertiveness
  • Low self esteem
  • Bereavement
  • Work related problem
  • Cultural concerns
  • Trauma
  • OCD
